The second phase of Mumbai Metro Line 9, connecting Kashigaon to Subhash Chandra Bose Stadium in Mira-Bhayandar, is expected to be completed by December 2026, improving public transport access for residents in the rapidly expanding suburbs.
The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) is expected to finish the remaining civil and systems work before inviting the Commissioner of Metro Railway Safety (CMRS) to inspect the corridor. Passenger services will begin only after the mandatory safety inspection and certification are completed.
The upcoming section will feature four stations: Sai Baba Nagar, Meditya Nagar, Shaheed Bhagat Singh Garden and Subhash Chandra Bose Stadium. These stations will extend metro services further into Mira-Bhayandar, providing commuters with additional options for travelling to different parts of Mumbai.
Connecting Mira-Bhayandar to Mumbai’s Metro Network
The first phase of Metro Line 9, covering the stretch between Dahisar East and Kashigaon, began passenger operations in April 2026. The corridor extends Metro Line 7, which connects Dahisar East with Gundavali in Andheri East.
Once the entire route becomes operational, residents of Mira-Bhayandar will gain a direct connection to Mumbai’s existing metro network. The expansion is expected to reduce reliance on private vehicles and road-based public transport for journeys towards Andheri and other major destinations.
Potential Relief for Road and Rail Commuters
The extended corridor is also expected to ease pressure on the Western Express Highway (WEH), a major arterial road that experiences heavy congestion, particularly during peak hours. It could provide an alternative to crowded Western Railway suburban services, which remain a key transport option for daily commuters.
Rising residential development in Mira-Bhayandar has increased demand for reliable transport links to Mumbai’s employment centres. According to MMRDA, Metro Line 9 could reduce travel time by 50% to 75%, depending on prevailing road traffic conditions.
The shorter journeys could make daily travel more predictable for commuters travelling during busy periods. With the second phase nearing completion, the project is expected to strengthen connectivity between Dahisar and Mira-Bhayandar and improve access to the wider metropolitan transport network.
