The Retreat House In Karjat Blends Mid-Century Design With A Nature-Inspired Resort Feel

Nestled amid the greenery of Karjat, The Retreat House by PSD (Parth Shah Designs) offers a peaceful residential getaway designed around comfort, natural materials and relaxed living. Spread across approximately 2,350 sq. ft., the three-bedroom second home provides its owners with a tranquil setting away from their everyday routine.

Designed for a family whose regular life is largely based overseas, the residence serves as a place to reconnect and spend quality time together. Its interiors draw inspiration from mid-century modern design, combining earthy shades, warm textures and contemporary detailing to create a resort-like atmosphere.

The existing structure, featuring a sloping roof, spacious proportions and a close connection with the surrounding greenery, guided the interior design approach. Instead of introducing elements that compete with the natural surroundings, PSD focused on bringing the landscape into the home through its colours, materials and spatial planning.

The layout is divided into two distinct sections, allowing parents and children to enjoy separate private spaces while sharing common areas. A central foyer connects these zones and establishes the home’s aesthetic through a deep green entrance door, patterned flooring, walnut furniture and an arched mirror.

The colour scheme features ivory, sand, taupe and muted sage, complemented by terracotta, ochre, rust and deep green accents. Timber and walnut finishes add warmth, while stone, woven fabrics, textured upholstery and carefully chosen decorative pieces introduce depth and character.

Rounded furniture designs soften the architectural lines, while wall mouldings, artwork and thoughtfully positioned lighting lend understated elegance. The living areas feature comfortable sofas, low tables and layered cushions, creating inviting spaces for conversations and relaxation.

Large openings fitted with sheer curtains allow natural light and views of the surrounding greenery to flow indoors, strengthening the connection between the interiors and the landscape.

Rather than simply replicating a holiday resort, The Retreat House captures the essence of a peaceful escape through thoughtful design, natural textures and an emphasis on everyday comfort.
