The Veermata Jijabai Technological Institute (VJTI) had submitted a scathing assessment to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) deeming the flyover on the Western Express Highway (WEH) close to the Chakala junction in Andheri (East) hazardous. Immediate fixes have been requested in the report. According to reports, the BMC reportedly acquired ownership of the WEH from the MMRDA in November 2022. The BMC wrote to the MMRDA in May in response to the VJTI audit report.
The flyover is still broken, endangering the lives of multiple commuters. The Mumbai Metropolitan Regional Development Authority (MMRDA) is blamed for this since it lacks the necessary structural designs and clarity regarding the relevant procedures. BMC requested authorization in the letter to take down the flyover’s supporting reinforced cement concrete (RCC) framework. The civic organization also asked that individuals be evacuated beneath the bridge and that pertinent government entities be given access to the space allotment paperwork.
