The Maharashtra state government has introduced Transfer of Development Rights (TDR) incentives to speed up development around Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport. This strategic initiative aims to encourage infrastructure growth and urban planning in the airport’s vicinity, promoting sustainable development and better connectivity.
The TDR incentives allow developers to gain additional construction rights in other parts of Mumbai in exchange for undertaking infrastructure projects near the airport. This policy is expected to drive investment in residential, commercial, and hospitality sectors, meeting the growing demand in one of India’s busiest metropolitan areas.
By optimising land use and promoting balanced urban development, the initiative addresses infrastructure challenges posed by rapid urbanisation. Leveraging TDR benefits, the government aims to foster an integrated development environment around the airport, enhancing operational efficiency and passenger amenities.
