Mumbai: Phase 1 of Metro 3 will begin in September

Phase 1 comprises three packages—Package 5, 6, and 7 which includes the SEEPZ, MIDC, and Marol stations. By September of this year, the first section of Mumbai’s underground Metro 3 line, which would link Colaba, Bandra, and SEEPZ, is scheduled to be completed between Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC) and Aarey.

The project’s implementing authority, Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation (MMRC), through its managing director, Ashwini Bhide, confirmed the updated schedule and acknowledged that unfinished mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) work had caused delays in Phase 1, particularly at the airport stations where entry and exit construction was still going on.

Package 6 work at the Sahar, T1, and T2 stations is still waiting. The Sahar Road station auxiliary building, which has an entry and an exit, is nearing construction. There are other continuing processes, such escalator testing. The late start on entry and exit work, which was made more difficult by MIAL’s intentions for overhead commercial expansion, has resulted in delays at the T1 station, a large station with a substantial amount of commercial space.
