The Tata Group and Somerville College, University of Oxford, are collaborating to develop a landmark edifice to memorialise the late Ratan Tata. Construction of the Ratan Tata Building, located in the heart of Oxford University’s new Radcliffe Observatory Quarter, is set to commence in March 2025.
According to a statement issued by the Tata Group and Somerville College, it will improve the college’s teaching and learning facilities, stimulate research, and exemplify the college’s aim of a sustainable and advanced academic environment.
While the decision to name the new building in memory of Tata in acknowledgement of his lifelong work as a philanthropist and humanitarian was made some time ago, his death was felt so strongly throughout India and the world, giving even more importance to this permanent homage.
The Tata Building will face the internationally renowned Blavatnik School of Government and will take up the last available plot of land on the prestigious Radcliffe Observatory Quarter site, directly across from the new Schwarzman Centre for the Humanities, according to the statement.
