The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has officially announced the name of Third Mumbai: Karnala-Sai-Chirner New Town (KSC New Town).
The new community, also known as the Navi Mumbai Airport Influence Notified Area (NAINA), was first planned in 2013 to manage the chaotic growth surrounding the upcoming Navi Mumbai International Airport. According to sources, this township, which covers 323.44 square kilometres, will contain Smart City elements.
The new town occupies 324 square kilometres and includes 124 villages: 80 under the Navi Mumbai Airport Influence Notified Area (NAINA), 33 under the Khopta New Town Notified Area, two under the Mumbai Metropolitan Regional Plan, and nine under the Raigad Regional Plan.
The state government has appointed MMRDA as the “New Town Development Authority” (NTDA) for Third Mumbai. This area comprises the Navi Mumbai terminus of the Mumbai Trans Harbour Link (MTHL). According to a recent government resolution, MMRDA will produce detailed planning plans and development regulations for the designated region. The authority has also been awarded land purchase rights, and budgetary resources must be made for this procedure.
MMRDA envisions a sustainable, greenfield commercial hub with smart city facilities, mixed-use spaces, and integrated residential areas to help the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) create jobs and build its economy. MMRDA also intends to use the CIDCO funding model, which provides developed land as compensation rather than direct monetary payments.
