Ashwini Vaishnaw Unveils Rs 16,240 Crore Rail Boost For CSMT Redevelopment

On Friday, Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw declared that the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) Railway Station in Mumbai would be redeveloped. To strike a balance between historical value and current requirements, the project intends to maintain the station’s legacy while adding contemporary amenities.

A UNESCO World Heritage Site, CSMT is being renovated to improve the traveler experience while preserving its famous architectural legacy. Vaishnaw told ANI that CSMT is a heritage station. The heritage will be preserved in its design, and the station will be outfitted with contemporary amenities.

With cabinet permission already in place, the Maharashtra government has given the institute land in Goregaon. Following the elections, the foundation stone will be placed, signalling the start of what Vaishnaw referred to as “a benchmark for the world.”

A forward-thinking vision for the city is shown in the reconstruction of CSMT, the growth of Mumbai’s local train network, and the founding of IICT. These projects seek to improve Mumbaikars’ quality of life while enhancing Mumbai’s standing as a global centre for innovation and connection by fusing cultural preservation, technology development, and capacity expansion.
