MHADA Strengthens Housing Goals Through MMR Growth Hub Workshop

In order to lay out the plan for the MMR Growth Hub Project, which aims to increase MMR’s GDP from USD 140 billion in 2023 to USD 300 billion by 2030, the Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA) held a workshop. With 800,000 units created through MHADA and CIDCO programs and 2.2 million through slum restoration, the project aims to provide 3 million units of affordable housing.

The workshop, which was led by Sanjeev Jaiswal, IAS, MHADA’s Vice President & CEO, focused on tackling redevelopment difficulties, collaborating with stakeholders, and implementing changes to lower housing costs. Regulatory changes, expedited approval processes, and creative housing options like rental, student, and industrial housing were among the main topics of debate.

Aiming for affordable housing for middle- and low-income families and sustainable urban planning, senior officials emphasised the usage of 2,000 hectares for cluster redevelopment. IAS’s Milind Shambharkar suggested changes to expedite projects that had stalled and guaranteed safer urban areas.

In order to meet the challenging goals and turn MMR into a model of economic and social development by 2030, the workshop ended with a request for cooperation from the government and the corporate sector.
