The long-awaited renovations at Kandivali station are moving forward steadily, and the project is currently 50% finished. The goal of the renovation, which should be completed by December 2025, is to update the station and improve the commuter experience in one of Mumbai’s busy suburban centres.
The Mumbai Rail Vikas Corporation (MRVC) is leading the Rs 55 crore project, which is a component of a broader plan to renovate 18 suburban stations in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR).
With an estimated cost of approximately Rs 950 crores, this massive transformation includes major upgrades to stations such as Ghatkopar, Vikhroli, Bhandup, Mulund, Dombivli, Neral, and Kasara on the Central line, GTB Nagar, Chembur, Govandi, and Mankhurd on the Harbour line, and Khar, Kandivali, Nallasopara, Vasai Road, Mira Road, Santacruz, and Bhayander on the Western line.
The Kandivali station development project, according to MRVC, entails building new and improved infrastructure to reduce traffic and enhance accessibility.
A 263-meter deck that connects the South and North FOBs is one of the many components that make up the project. 40 meters by 10 meters is the South FOB. A North FOB with dimensions of 84 by 6 meters, An intermediate FOB measuring 42 by 4 meters, Three elevators, four escalators, and seven new staircases Widening of Platform 1, a new station building on the west side, and other amenities, such as a lavatory block on the north side, a 4.0-meter-wide skywalk that runs between Platforms 2, 3, and 4 and the new South FOB and the old South FOB.
When the renovation is finished, it should greatly improve the commuter experience at Kandivali station by reducing traffic, enhancing connection, and increasing accessibility. Wider platforms, more staircases, lifts, and escalators are all part of the project’s extensive scope, which is anticipated to accommodate the increasing passenger volume in the upcoming years.
