In November 2024, Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) maintained its impressive performance, recording notable increases in passenger volume, cargo handling, and operational efficiency.
3.40 million domestic and 1.37 million international passengers made up the airport’s stated total of 4.77 million passengers during the month. There were 27,200 Air Traffic Movements (ATMs) in all, with 941 flights handled on November 27, 2024, making it the busiest day.
“The increased demand for local and international air travel throughout the holiday season was the main driver of this impressive accomplishment. To accommodate this demand, CSMIA’s growing network and emphasis on offering first-rate services were crucial, solidifying the airport’s standing as a significant air travel hub, the airport said on Wednesday.
Delhi, Bangalore, and Goa were the most popular domestic travel destinations, catering to both business and leisure tourists. The most well-traveled routes abroad were Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and London.
With 71,046 metric tonnes (MT) of goods handled—18,653 MT domestic and 52,393 MT international—cargo operations also experienced a notable increase. Consolidated cargoes, engineering goods, and postal letters were important domestic cargo, whilst electronics, cars, and medications were among the major overseas consignments. London, Frankfurt, and Dubai dominated international freight routes, while Delhi, Bangalore, and Kolkata were the most popular domestic cargo destinations.
Cargo operations grew 11% year over year in comparison to November 2023, mostly due to a 32% rise in shipments of automotive products. During the month, CSMIA reported 699 specialised cargo ATMs, 349 of which were domestic and 350 of which were international movements.
