City’s Air Quality Deteriorates: Seven Areas Hit ‘Poor,’ One Declared ‘Very Poor’

On Tuesday afternoon, the city’s seven localities saw a sharp decline in air quality, with one falling into the very poor category.

Deonar, Kandivali West, Malad West, Mazgaon, Navy Nagar in Colaba, Sewri, and Siddharth Nagar in Worli were among the places that reported low AQI (201-300), despite the city’s average AQI of 191, which was deemed extremely unacceptable. According to data from the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), Borivli East was located in the extremely poor (301-400) AQI zone.

Most other places, including Byculla, Chembur, Airport Terminal 2, Ghatkopar, Kherwadi, Sion, Mindspace Malad, Mulund West, Powai, and Khindipada Bhandup, have extremely poor air quality.

Warmer sea air was confined by cooler air, which reduced circulation and the spread of pollutants. Until the temperature or wind patterns change, the conditions are probably going to stay the same. Masking up and restricting outside activities during peak hours are recommended by health professionals.
