MMRDA Unveils Signal-Free Road To Ease BKC Traffic

The SEBI Building and Avenue-5 at the Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) are connected by a 180-meter signal-free route opened by the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA). The road, finished in under three and a half months, is intended to reduce traffic at the BKC One and BKC Connector Junctions.

Thanks to the new route, commuters from the Eastern Express Highway have three options for getting to BKC. The route passes beneath the BKC connector and Avenue-3. Three of its six lanes are currently open, and the remaining lanes will be added shortly. Due to this development, commuters from the eastern suburbs now only have to travel 15 minutes, greatly reducing delays that frequently surpass 30 minutes during peak hours.

The route improves traffic flow to important landmarks including the MCA Club, consulates, and MTNL junction. Joint MMRDA Commissioner Radhabinod Sharma, IAS, and Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Anil Kumbhare attended the road’s unveiling. It adds to the four current roads into BKC, including the well-liked BKC-Chunabhatti connection, which has seen a rise in traffic.

Dr. Sanjay Mukherjee, the Metropolitan Commissioner, emphasised how the road enhances urban mobility and strengthens BKC’s standing as a leading commercial centre. The road is anticipated to substantially reduce internal traffic when more lanes open, supporting MMRDA’s goal of a connected metropolitan area.

This project addresses the difficulties posed by BKC’s expanding commercial activities and demonstrates MMRDA’s dedication to quick and effective infrastructure construction.
