On Monday, a ceremony officially kicked off the construction of an Indian Coast Guard (ICG) training ship at Mumbai’s Mazagaon pier.
Senior ICG officials and representatives from the warship and submarine producer Mazagaon Dock Shipbuilders Limited (MDL) presided over the ceremony. On October 17, 2023, the training ship construction contract was awarded. The ship will be essential to the training of seventy officers.
With a 7,500-navigational-mile range, the ship will have specific amenities such as a chart house, cadet training bridge, and classrooms to guarantee an excellent learning environment at sea. The ship will have a length of 107 meters and a top speed of 20 knots, or 37 km per hour.
Modern equipment and cutting-edge technical systems, such as AI-based predictive maintenance systems, a multifunctional drone, the Integrated Bridge System (IBS), and the Integrated Platform Management System (IPMS), will also be present.
Under the Narendra Modi government’s Atmanirbhar Bharat plan, MDL is designing, developing, and building this ship domestically.
