The Mumbai Metro rail service should be extended immediately to the suburban Dahisar area, according to Maharashtra’s Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik, in order to give everyday passengers much-needed respite. He underlined the urgent need for improved connectivity in the area during his Thursday inspection of infrastructure projects in Mira-Bhayandar.
“The people of Mira-Bhayandar deserve justice. The Mumbai Metro must be operational up to Dahisar by the end of this year to ensure a hassle-free commute for local residents,” Sarnaik stated while speaking to reporters. He directed the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) to accelerate the project, stressing that the metro’s expansion is a key priority to ease congestion and improve transportation in the area.
Sarnaik blamed the ongoing traffic at the Dahisar check post, which is known for its heavy traffic, on “mismanagement” on the part of toll operators. He called on them to make amends right away. Additionally, he emphasised that the previous administration, led by Eknath Shinde, has already made a constructive move by removing tolls for light motor vehicles at Mumbai’s five entry points, which had somewhat reduced traffic.
Sarnaik examined the status of three flyovers in Mira-Bhayandar that are now under development in addition to the metro expansion. He gave an update on their progress, saying that one flyover is currently in use, the second will be opened on February 19, which is also the anniversary of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’s birth, and the third should be finished by the end of August.
These infrastructure projects are anticipated to provide much-needed respite to commuters and locals, providing smoother and more efficient travel in the area as a result of the region’s growing urbanisation and traffic problems.
