Starting Tuesday, vehicles will not be allowed to use the Panvel exit route on the Mumbai-bound carriageway of the Mumbai-Pune Expressway for travel towards Panvel, Mumbra, and JNPT via Kalamboli Circle for the next six months. The restriction also applies to traffic heading towards Taloja, Kalyan, and Shilphata due to ongoing construction of a flyover and underpass at Kalamboli Circle by the Maharashtra State Infrastructure Development Corporation.
According to Navi Mumbai traffic police’s Kalamboli unit, all vehicles, including cars and heavy vehicles, traveling towards Panvel, Goa, and JNPT will be diverted at Kon Phata, 9.6 km before the Panvel exit, toward Palaspe Circle, where they will connect to NH-48 (Delhi-Chennai Highway) to reach their destinations.
For vehicles from Pune heading towards Taloja, Kalyan, and Shilphata, the new route will require descending from the Expressway before the Panvel exit, proceeding via Kalamboli, and taking the Sion-Panvel Highway. From there, vehicles must turn right under the flyover near Pursharth Petrol Pump to reach Roadpali before continuing to NH-48.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Tirupati Kakade assured that traffic heading towards the Mumbai Trans Harbour Link (MTHL/Atal Setu) will remain unaffected, as vehicles will be diverted via the service road at Kon Phata. He added that once completed, the new flyover and underpass at Kalamboli Circle will significantly ease congestion, allowing vehicles traveling towards Panvel, JNPT, and Goa to bypass traffic signals and move more smoothly.
