BMC Sets October 2026 Deadline For Mahalaxmi-Haji Ali Missing Link Project

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Wednesday set an October 2026 deadline for the completion of the missing link project between South Mumbai’s Mahalaxmi and Haji Ali, five years after the tender was issued. The second flyover and the new cable-stayed Road Over Bridge (ROB) are now scheduled for completion by October 31, 2026, to replace the century-old Mahalaxmi Bridge and enhance traffic flow in the areas.

Worli and Mahalaxmi Station will have improved access thanks to the two new bridges. This new building on Keshavrao Khadye Road will also be the first cable-stayed flyover over railway tracks built by BMC. It will run along the Western Railway line near Mahalaxmi Railway Station, connecting Saat Rasta to Mahalaxmi Maidan.

The bridge will be 803 meters long and 17.2 meters wide, with a 23.01-meter extension inside the railroad’s bounds. Building a 78-meter-tall pylon is a crucial component of the cable-stayed bridge’s construction, and it will take 200 days to finish. Phased construction will be done inside the railroad’s borders.

On the north side of the Mahalaxmi Station, the second bridge will be 639 meters long and connect Dr. E. Moses Road to Dhobi Ghat Road via Worli. Both bridges, which are part of a Rs 745 crore project to relieve traffic jams, are intended to have four lanes.
