The Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) has announced that the Mumbai-Nagpur Samruddhi Expressway will be fully operational by mid-March. Currently, motorists can travel 625 km from Igatpuri near Nashik to Nagpur, with the final stretch now ready. However, a crucial connecting road, being constructed by the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI), is still underway and is expected to be completed by March 10, as per Money Control.
Officially named the Hindu Hrudaysamrat Balasaheb Thackeray Maharashtra Samruddhi Mahamarg, the expressway will significantly reduce travel time between Mumbai and Nagpur from 16 hours to just 8 hours. It will also enhance connectivity between JNPT in Mumbai and the Nagpur Multimodal International Airport, boosting trade and transportation.
A portion of the motorway was opened in December 2022 and March 2023. The final 76 km between Igatpuri and Amane were originally planned to be finished in late 2024. However, the schedule was pushed back by delays brought on by political shifts in the state government. In order to open the entire corridor at once, MSRDC has now accelerated the remaining work.
