The main bridge at Haji Ali under the Mumbai Coastal Road had its bitumen laid last week by the contractors hired by the BMC. Given that this issue was discovered less than a year after the infrastructure project was made accessible to drivers, the patches on the northbound section of the coastal route received harsh social media criticism and also raised concerns from the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO).
According to the BMC, the mastic layers that were first sprayed as a pre-emptive step prior to the monsoon were what caused the areas that were evident on the coastal route in the widely shared video. Asphalt was applied to the road prior to July 2024.
According to civic officials, work on removing the extra mastic coating started on February 22.
