The coastal road in Mumbai has a five-year maintenance contract of Rs 85 crore. This 10.6-kilometer high-speed lane was previously maintained by local officials and has been opened gradually in sections. The new contract includes several duties, such as routine inspections, firefighting system maintenance, towing, police van deployment, lane markings, and road sign maintenance. Officials say these maintenance projects will be financed by monies allotted to the coastal road department.
Before being incorporated into the new contract, some crucial elements, including the tunnel ventilation system, diesel generators, real-time data monitoring systems, and uninterruptible power supply units, will continue to be managed by the present contractor for a further two years.
The goal of this stepwise transformation is to guarantee continuity and seamless operations. Along with upkeep, work is being done to improve the corridor’s appearance. To upgrade roads, authorities have teamed up with private businesses.
In order to provide more aesthetically pleasing and useful areas for commuters, corporate funding is also being sought to build open spaces along the route. It is anticipated that planned maintenance and beautification projects will enhance public areas and infrastructure once portions of the route are operating. These projects demonstrate continuous attempts to improve a major transport corridor in Mumbai while guaranteeing its long-term viability and effectiveness.
