In Malabar Hill, Mumbai’s first elevated nature trail walkway has finally opened to the public after three years of construction. Singapore’s treetop walkways served as the model for the project, which was carried out by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC).
The BMC announced the inauguration of the Elevated Nature Trail through a video post on X, stating: “An ‘Elevated Nature Trail’, inspired by Singapore’s ‘Tree Top Walk,’ has been developed amidst the lush greenery of Kamla Nehru Park and Firozeshah Mehta Garden at Malabar Hill in Mumbai. This ‘Elevated Nature Trail’ is now open to the public, offering Mumbaikars a unique elevated path through the treetops.”
The walkway meanders through the Malabar Hill forest and concludes with a breathtaking view of the Arabian Sea near Girgaon Chowpatty. Entry fees have been set at Rs 25 for Indian visitors and ₹100 for foreign tourists.
The video shared by the BMC showcases the trail enveloped in dense greenery, with vibrant flowers enhancing its natural charm. A key highlight is the Sea Viewing Deck, which provides panoramic vistas of the coastline.
Visitors have expressed excitement over the opening, with one tourist remarking, “We had been eagerly anticipating this since December when we first heard about it. Similar walkways in countries like Singapore allow people to immerse themselves in nature, observe birds, and enjoy scenic views, including the stunning sight of Girgaon.”
The project was commissioned to the BMC in 2021 at a cost of Rs 22 crore, with construction commencing in 2022. However, given that Malabar Hill is a designated silent zone, work could only be carried out during restricted hours, leading to the extended timeline of nearly three years.
