The Mumbai Metro Aqua Line 3’s major addition, the recently built Dharavi Metro Station, has its first images released by the Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation Limited (MMRCL). The station, which was constructed along the banks of the Mithi River using the cut-and-cover technique, had to overcome several logistical and engineering obstacles, such as the need to relocate vital services, acquire land, and divert traffic.
The station, which falls on the 33.5-km-long underground Aqua Line, is set to enhance connectivity between major locations such as Cuffe Parade, Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC) and Aarey JVLR. Featuring modern infrastructure such as elevators, spacious corridors, and automated ticket-checking zones, Dharavi Metro Station has been designed to cater to the high commuter demand in one of Mumbai’s most congested localities.
According to MMRCL officials, full-scale safety inspections are scheduled around April 10, with services expected to commence later this week or by early next week, depending on the results. Newly released images on Mumbai Metro 3’s official X handle (formerly Twitter) give commuters a glimpse of the sleek design and updated passenger amenities.
The Aqua Line, once complete, will feature 27 fully underground stations. At present, a 12.69-km stretch between Aarey JVLR and BKC has been operational since October 7, 2024. The next section, a 9.77-km phase from BKC to Worli, is in its final inspection phase, while the remaining 13-km stretch to Cuffe Parade is expected to be completed and opened by July 2025.
