The highly anticipated metro network between Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) and Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) is expected to significantly increase the financial activity in these areas, according to officials on Wednesday. The ambitious project is probably going to be a major transport project in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR), they said.
The City and Industrial Development Corporation of Maharashtra Ltd (CIDCO), the project’s nodal body, has said that in addition to easing traffic, the project will also help the real estate industry.
According to the Deccan Herald, Vice Chairman and Managing Director of CIDCO Vijay Singhal stated, “There is an ambitious plan to connect Navi Mumbai International Airport and Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport via Mumbai Metro in the coming period.”
The Mumbai metro line 8 would span 35 kilometres, with 9.25 km of that total being underground, according to a statement made by the administration earlier last month. Beginning at CSMIA Terminal-2, the project will travel underground between CSMIA and Chedda Nagar. The alignment goes through various important areas, such as Lokmanya Tilak Terminus, Mankhurd, Vashi, Nerul, Kurla, and Belapur, and it will continue to run elevated until NMIA.
“The proposed route will accommodate increasing domestic and international passenger traffic while enhancing inter-airport connections. Additionally, it should make transfers between the two airports easier for those with busy schedules or those on connecting flights. The DH cited CIDCO officials as adding, “The project also aims to decongest surrounding roadways and reduce travel time for commuters bound for the airport.”
“The Navi Mumbai metro network, led by CIDCO, seeks to guarantee smooth connectivity between important nodes within Navi Mumbai and with Greater Mumbai,” the officials continued.
