Fadnavis Pushes For Seamless Multi-Modal Transit At Navi Mumbai Airport

Devendra Fadnavis, the chief minister of Maharashtra, gave the City and Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO) instructions on Thursday to build a thorough multimodal transportation network at the future Navi Mumbai International Airport. “The facility would be the first international airport in India to integrate such a transport system,” Fadnavis said during a project review meeting.

The Chief Minister emphasised the importance of ensuring seamless access for commuters, instructing CIDCO to link the airport with the metro network and other modes of transport, including a proposed water taxi service. He stressed that no inconvenience should be caused to citizens and urged timely completion of all projects under CIDCO’s jurisdiction.

Fadnavis also reviewed progress on housing and sporting infrastructure in Navi Mumbai. He stated that homes provided by CIDCO should be of high quality and made available at affordable prices, with strict adherence to deadlines. He further highlighted the ongoing work on sports facilities and the Kharghar Valley Golf Course, insisting that these too meet high standards.

“Future-ready and environmentally sustainable cities must be built with employment generation, widespread use of solar energy, and world-class infrastructure,” he noted. Fadnavis underscored CIDCO’s crucial role in realising this vision, pointing to the Navi Mumbai Airport Influence Notified Area (NAINA) project as a key initiative. He directed officials to plan road widths under the NAINA project based on anticipated future traffic, and to define and enforce strict project timelines in all tenders going forward.

Additionally, Fadnavis recommended that the Navi Mumbai International Airport prioritise general aviation infrastructure, including as hangars and facilities for repairing aircraft. According to him, adequate parking and repair facilities are crucial given the number of private planes that frequent Mumbai. He restated that in order to guarantee easy access for every traveler, connection by road, rail, metro, and water should be finished on schedule.

“Today, we have access to modern technology. Hence, it is unacceptable for infrastructure projects to face undue delays. All works must have clearly defined timelines,” the Chief Minister asserted.
