The tallest bridge on the Mumbai-Pune Motorway is presently being built as part of the much-anticipated “Missing Link” project, which has entered its final phase. Authorities have required continuous, real-time monitoring of air pressure and structural integrity to guarantee structural safety.
The 13.3-kilometre link, developed by the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC), is nearing completion, with 95% of the work under Packages I and II already finished. Once operational, the extension will significantly reduce travel time between Mumbai and Pune and improve road safety by bypassing the accident-prone ghat section.
Recently, the Sahyadri Guest House hosted a high-level review meeting to evaluate the progress of the Missing Link project and the impending construction of the Amne Node, a planned economic hub on the Balasaheb Thackeray Samruddhi Mahamarg.
Planned to emulate the success of Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC) and Noida, the Amne Node will span 10,791 hectares. It is set to become a major industrial corridor featuring an integrated industrial park, logistics hub, agri-hub, and food processing zone. MSRDC will act as the Special Planning Authority for the ambitious urban-industrial development.
To mitigate traffic congestion until the completion of the expressway, authorities have instructed the identification of alternate transport routes towards Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT) and Ahmedabad. The Nashik Highway project was also prioritised, with a directive for accelerated execution to prevent traffic disruptions.
The strategic review meeting was chaired by Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and attended by Education Minister Dadaji Bhuse, Water Conservation Minister Sanjay Rathod, Minister of State for Public Works Meghna Bordikar, Principal Secretary to the Deputy Chief Minister Nawin Sona, and MSRDC Managing Director Anil Gaikwad, among other senior officials.
These advances bolster Maharashtra’s ambition for large-scale infrastructural and industrial growth, placing the state as a magnet for investment and economic transformation.
