BMC Shuts Water Supply In S Ward For Pipeline Work On April 29

Residents of Bhandup, Nahur, Kanjurmarg, and Vikhroli East faced water supply disruptions on April 29 as the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) undertook vital pipeline maintenance in the S ward. The temporary water shutoff was necessary to connect a 900 mm x 900 mm water pipeline at Chamunda Nagar in Bhandup East—a part of BMC’s broader plan to upgrade and modernise the city’s water distribution network.

The disruption, which began after regular water supply hours, was announced in advance, with BMC advising citizens to store sufficient water and use it wisely during the interruption. The civic body has assured that water services will resume immediately after the successful completion of the pipeline connection.

BMC officials acknowledged the inconvenience caused but emphasised the long-term gains of the project. Improved water pressure, equitable distribution, and enhanced service quality are among the key benefits expected from the upgrade. This pipeline connection is also in line with BMC’s push toward sustainable urban development, including efforts to reduce the city’s dependence on borewells and water tankers—which strain already-depleting groundwater sources.

Officials further explained that growing population density in the S ward necessitates such proactive upgrades. The civic body remains committed to building resilient, eco-friendly infrastructure capable of supporting Mumbai’s future water needs while aligning with the city’s carbon neutrality goals.
