Several significant transport and infrastructure projects in Mumbai that Prime Minister Narendra Modi was supposed to inaugurate on May 1 have been delayed because of increased security concerns in the wake of the recent terrorist incident in Pahalgam, Jammu & Kashmir, on April 22.
The completed Igatpuri-to-Thane section of the Samruddhi Mahamarg expressway, the new Thane Creek Bridge’s Mumbai-bound lane, the partial opening of Mumbai Metro Line 3 from Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) to Acharya Atre Chowk, and the handover of redeveloped homes at BDD Chawl in Worli are among the projects impacted.
The public launches have been postponed to avoid massive celebrations soon after the attack that stunned the country, even though the majority of projects are finished or almost ready for final clearance. Before the subterranean portion can begin carrying passengers, Mumbai Metro Line 3 must receive final safety approval. Due to scheduling and security concerns, the Samruddhi Motorway and Thane Creek Bridge, which have been planned for months, are also being delayed.
Another highlight of the planned tour was the BDD Chawl project, which was overseen by MHADA and featured recently constructed housing blocks that were ready for occupants. There was a big public event scheduled for BKC before the Pahalgam disaster. Smaller ceremonies or joint inaugurations by the Maharashtra Chief Minister and his deputies are possible alternatives after the cancellation. No final resolutions have been announced, with updates pending on security conditions and PM Modi’s schedule.
