Mumbaikars and nature enthusiasts who have been excitedly waiting to witness the breathtaking view of the Gorai Creek from a watchtower placed in the creek, and to walk along a 740-metre-long boardwalk crossing through the mangrove forest, will have to wait at least one more month. The launch of the Gorai mangrove park has been delayed as completing work is still waiting. The project was originally scheduled to open on May 1 and was slated to cost Rs 33.43 crore. The ambitious mangrove park project at Gorai is moving forward quickly, according to a representative of the Maharashtra Forest Department’s Mangrove Cell.

A report titled “Mumbaikars can walk through Gorai’s mangrove forest from May 1” was published by Midday on March 1. Eight hectares make up the Mangrove Park. The park will have a bird observatory and mangrove pathways once it is up and running. Naturalists will assist in organising these events and will inform guests about the biodiversity and environment of mangroves.
A touch-based information system that offers virtual reality content about the plants and animals of mangrove habitats will be installed in the park. Mumbai has more mangroves than any other big city in the world, with over 50 km². Additionally, these trees are very good natural protectors of marine habitats and coastal cities. To guarantee that the project has as little of an impact as possible on the delicate mangrove ecosystem, it was planned and built with an eco-sensitive approach.
Officials claim that every element of the park, from design and material choices to building techniques, has been thoughtfully chosen to complement ecologically conscious and sustainable practices. During construction, not a single mangrove tree was felled. Rather of disrupting the natural habitat, they have been skilfully integrated into the park’s design, guaranteeing that it is protected and enhanced.
