Thane Creek Bridge 3 Ready, Awaits Final Approval for InaugurationThane Creek Bridge 3 Ready, Awaits Final Approval For Inauguration

A vital infrastructure project connecting Mumbai and Navi Mumbai — the third Thane Creek Bridge (TCB-3) — has been completed and is awaiting final approval from central authorities before its formal inauguration.

Constructed at a cost of ₹850 crore by the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC), the six-lane bridge spans approximately 1.8 km and runs parallel to the existing Thane Creek Bridge. MSRDC officials confirmed that all technical and civil work was finalised in April. However, the bridge remains closed to the public pending security clearances and scheduling of the official opening ceremony.

Earlier this week, MSRDC stated that they are waiting for confirmation from the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) and the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways regarding the date for inauguration. Once approved, the bridge will be opened for public use.

The new bridge is expected to significantly ease congestion on the Sion-Panvel Highway, which currently sees over 1.3 lakh vehicles crossing the existing bridge daily—often resulting in severe traffic bottlenecks. With TCB-3 in place, authorities anticipate a substantial improvement in traffic flow and reduced commute times for thousands of daily travellers.

As Navi Mumbai continues to grow as a commercial and residential hub, seamless connectivity with Mumbai has become increasingly essential. TCB-3 is set to play a pivotal role in meeting this demand by enhancing mobility between the two cities.

Once inaugurated, the bridge will mark a major milestone in regional transport infrastructure, bringing long-awaited relief to commuters and boosting logistical efficiency in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region. All that remains is the final nod from central authorities to make this key public asset operational.
