As part of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority’s (MMRDA) flagship “Mumbai in Minutes” initiative, a double-decker flyover along Metro Line 6—connecting Swami Samarth Nagar, Andheri, to Vikhroli (Eastern Express Highway) via the Jogeshwari-Vikhroli Link Road (JVLR) and Powai—is rapidly taking shape. The project is a crucial component of Mumbai’s integrated urban mobility strategy, aimed at boosting east–west connectivity and alleviating traffic congestion on key corridors.
Initially proposed by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) to ease traffic between Andheri (West) and Jogeshwari (East), the 5.08 km flyover begins at New Link Road near Infinity Mall and extends to Poonam Nagar on JVLR. Given its intersection with Metro Line 6, the project was handed over to MMRDA for streamlined coordination between metro and road infrastructure.
Of the total stretch, BMC has already completed 0.93 km. MMRDA is now executing the remainder in two parts. Part I involves a 2.58 km double-decker structure, with one level for road traffic and the other for Metro Line 6. Currently 80% complete, this phase is being executed by the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation at a cost of Rs 304 crore.
Part II includes 1.55 km of single-level flyover, ramps, and a 120-metre cable-stayed bridge over the Western Express Highway and Metro Line 7, being built by J Kumar Infraprojects. As of now, this phase stands at 39% completion.
Construction faces constraints due to heavy JVLR traffic, night-time metro operations, and encroachment clearances. To accelerate relief for commuters, MMRDA will commission Phase I by December 2025 and Phase II by June 2026.
Once completed, the flyover will provide seamless, signal-free travel from Andheri to Powai—cutting journey times, reducing fuel usage, and easing pressure on JVLR and the Western Express Highway.
