CIDCO Unveils Major Water Infrastructure Projects In Navi Mumbai

July 3, 2025: To address Navi Mumbai’s projected water demand of 1,257 million litres per day by 2050, the City and Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO) has initiated several vital water infrastructure projects aimed at ensuring long-term sustainability and supporting the region’s urban expansion.

A cornerstone of this initiative is the phased expansion of the Hetawane Water Supply Scheme. The project is progressing steadily, with 41 per cent of the water treatment plant completed, 8.5 per cent of the raw water tunnel developed, and 25.7 per cent progress on the pure water tunnel. Full completion is targeted for June 2029.

Looking ahead, CIDCO is also developing new water sources, notably the Kondhane Dam on the Ulhas River. Initially set to supply 250 million litres per day (MLD), it has the potential to scale up to 350 MLD. Both the Kondhane and Balganga dam projects are expected to be completed within the next four to five years.

To cater to immediate needs, the Maharashtra government approved an additional 120 MLD allocation from the Hetawane Dam in August 2020, raising CIDCO’s total to 270 MLD. This move enhances regional water security while supporting the city’s short-term demands.
