Maharashtra Clears Rs 3,750 crore for New Bombay High Court complex In Bandra

September 9, 2025: The Maharashtra Cabinet, chaired by Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, has sanctioned Rs 3,750 crore for the construction of a new Bombay High Court complex in Bandra East. Spread across 30.16 acres of government-owned land, the development has been classified as a major infrastructure initiative for the state.

The proposed state-of-the-art facility will house 75 modern courtrooms, judges’ chambers, offices, staff amenities, a dedicated arbitration and mediation centre, a library, an auditorium, and extensive residential quarters. Plans also include ample parking space, making the complex an integrated judicial hub aimed at improving efficiency and convenience for both lawyers and litigants.

To facilitate construction, the government has begun de-reserving land parcels earmarked under Development Plan (DP) 2034. These areas were previously allocated for a cultural centre, police station, gardens, government housing, and bus shelters.

In June, the Cabinet had cleared the relocation of 254 families from Gautam Nagar and Kamla Nagar slums, which occupied 4.09 acres of the earmarked site. These households are to be rehabilitated in Malad East and Kandivali, thereby freeing land for the court project.

A renowned architect has been appointed to design the complex along with its road network, ensuring modern infrastructure is aligned with the needs of Mumbai’s expanding judicial system. Officials said the new High Court complex will address long-standing space and infrastructure constraints faced by the existing facility in south Mumbai. Once completed, the project is expected to serve as a modern, integrated centre of justice, meeting the needs of a growing population while improving access to legal services across the city.
