October 31, 2025: Following the success of the Mumbai Coastal Road (South) between Marine Drive and Worli—which has already eased traffic congestion and slashed travel times—authorities are now extending the city’s coastal connectivity northwards. The Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) is witnessing an unprecedented coastal infrastructure expansion with multiple sea links and roads under development.
Among the most ambitious projects is the Versova–Bhayander Coastal Road, which will connect Andheri’s Versova to Bhayander. Once completed, it will drastically cut travel time between the western suburbs and Mira–Bhayander, offering a scenic alternative to the Western Express Highway while decongesting existing arterial routes.
Further north, the Uttan–Virar Sea Link aims to integrate the Vasai–Virar region with Mumbai’s transport grid. The corridor is expected to transform regional connectivity, providing residents and businesses with faster access to the city and spurring real estate and economic growth.
The Bandra–Versova Savarkar Sea Link, an extension of the Bandra–Worli Sea Link, will connect Bandra to Versova, easing traffic pressure on the Western Express Highway. Once integrated with the Versova–Bhayander route, it will form a continuous coastal corridor across western Mumbai.
In eastern MMR, several new corridors are being planned, including the Thane, Kharghar, and Ulwe Coastal Roads. The Thane route will connect commuters to Mumbai and Navi Mumbai, while the Kharghar and Ulwe corridors will enhance intra-city movement and support the Navi Mumbai International Airport by managing future traffic inflows.
Together, these projects mark a transformational leap in urban mobility, promising shorter commutes, decongested highways, and a seamless coastal transport network. Much like the Marine Drive–Worli phase, these new links will shape the next era of Mumbai’s sustainable, connected growth.
