The Bhiwandi Nizampur Municipal Corporation (BNMC) has achieved a record property tax recovery of Rs 23.67 crore in just 24 days under the Abhay amnesty scheme, marking the highest short-term collection in the civic body’s history.
Between April 1 and November 30, BNMC collected Rs 52.95 crore, up from Rs 27.80 crore during the same period last year, which included three rounds of 100% interest waiver.
The Abhay Scheme, introduced from November 7 to 30, offered taxpayers a 100% waiver on interest for clearing dues, prompting 14,578 property owners to settle their arrears and contributing to the record recovery. From December 1, defaulters are being offered a 75% interest waiver, with daily collections of nearly Rs 20 lakh being reported.
