Metro Line 8 to Connect CSMIA with Navi Mumbai International Airport

The state government, through CIDCO, has finalised the alignment for Metro Line 8, connecting Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) with the Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA). The corridor will create the first continuous internal metro network across multiple Navi Mumbai suburbs, with 11 stations planned within city limits.

After crossing the Vashi Creek bridge from Mankhurd, the metro will run along the Sion–Panvel Highway, then turn inward through Nerul, Seawoods, and Ulwe before reaching NMIA. The two final stations will be located inside the airport campus.

The 11 stations within Navi Mumbai include Vashi, Sanpada, Juinagar, Nerul Sector-1, Nerul, Seawoods, Belapur, Sagar Sangam, Targhar/Moha, NMIA West, and NMIA Terminal 2. The route passes through key suburbs, educational institutions such as Dr. D.Y. Patil University, commercial hubs, and residential nodes including Ulwe.

Metro Line 8 has now been incorporated into the MMRDA’s 337-km regional metro masterplan. Originally proposed as a joint MMRDA-CIDCO project, it will be developed through a public-private partnership (PPP) model led entirely by CIDCO.

CIDCO has completed the detailed project report and financial planning and submitted the proposal to the state government for cabinet approval. The metro line is expected to significantly improve connectivity between Mumbai’s international airports and the city’s expanding Navi Mumbai suburbs.
