Atal Setu-Mumbai-Pune Connector Advances As Key Structural Milestones Near Completion

The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority has reported steady headway on the Atal Setu–Mumbai–Pune Expressway connectivity corridor, with construction progressing across multiple components of the project.

According to official updates, foundation work has been completed at 143 out of 176 planned locations. Pier construction has reached 141 sites, while pier caps have been executed at 88 locations. On the superstructure side, 653 of the 830 precast girders have been completed, reflecting consistent progress in both engineering execution and construction timelines.

Parallel work is also ongoing at the Palaspe stretch, where slip roads and service lanes are being expanded to facilitate smoother traffic movement and seamless integration with the existing expressway network. These upgrades are expected to improve capacity and accommodate rising traffic demand.

The 7.35-km-long elevated corridor, designed as a six-lane structure with an 11.5 m + 11.5 m configuration, will serve as a critical link between Atal Setu and the Mumbai–Pune Expressway. Passing through Chirle and Palaspe, the corridor will also provide direct access to the upcoming Navi Mumbai International Airport, a key element in the region’s infrastructure expansion.

Once completed, the project is expected to enable signal-free travel between Mumbai and Pune, reducing commute times and improving the movement of both passengers and freight. It is also anticipated to strengthen connectivity across Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, and Pune, supporting regional economic integration.

The project is targeted for completion by February 2027 and is part of MMRDA’s broader ‘Mumbai in Minutes’ initiative, which focuses on building integrated transport systems for faster and more predictable travel.

MMRDA Metropolitan Commissioner Dr. Sanjay Mukherjee stated that the connector is expected to allow commuters to access the Mumbai–Pune Expressway without signal interruptions, creating a faster and more efficient travel route through Atal Setu. He added that the project is expected to benefit students, working professionals, and daily commuters by making inter-city travel more practical, supporting the idea of living in one city and working or studying in another.
