MHADA Extends Mumbai Lottery 2026 Deadline As Low Participation Delays Draw

The Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority has extended the registration deadline for its Mumbai Lottery 2026 scheme after witnessing a weaker-than-expected response from homebuyers.

Officials said the last date for submitting applications and paying the earnest money deposit has been pushed forward by 15 days, allowing more time for interested applicants to complete the formalities. A revised schedule for the lottery process is expected to be issued shortly.

As a result of the extension, the housing draw, which was originally scheduled for May, is now likely to take place in June.

The lottery includes around 2,640 residential units spread across Mumbai. However, officials noted that overall participation has fallen short of expectations, primarily due to high property prices in several categories, which appear to have discouraged many prospective buyers.

While a sizeable number of applicants initially registered, only a limited portion proceeded to complete the process by paying the required deposit. This gap between registration and final submission has impacted the overall uptake.

Authorities also highlighted that unsold inventory from earlier MHADA lotteries continues to remain on the market. Some of these flats are priced in the range of ₹1 crore to ₹8 crore, which has further slowed demand among middle-income buyers.

Officials added that a detailed revised timetable, including the final date of the lottery draw, will be announced soon. The extension is aimed at improving participation and ensuring better completion rates for the ongoing housing allocation process.

The MHADA lottery remains one of Mumbai’s key affordable housing mechanisms, but rising prices in certain segments are increasingly influencing buyer interest and participation trends in recent years.
