CM Devendra Fadnavis & Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia Inaugurate Modernised Andheri Railway Station Post Office

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia on Saturday inaugurated the newly renovated Andheri Railway Station (RS) Post Office in Mumbai under the ‘Jan Sewa Connect’ initiative, marking a significant step in the ongoing modernisation of India’s postal infrastructure.

Originally established in 1932-33, the 94-year-old post office has now been transformed into a modern, technology-enabled, and citizen-focused service centre with upgraded infrastructure, enhanced customer amenities, and improved digital integration.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by local MLA Ameet Satam, Chief Postmaster General of the Maharashtra Circle Amitabh Singh, along with senior officials and staff members from the Maharashtra Postal Circle.

The redevelopment has been carried out under India Post’s flagship ‘Jan Sewa Connect’ programme in collaboration with the School of Planning and Architecture (SPA), an Institution of National Importance functioning under the Ministry of Education. The initiative aims to modernise traditional postal facilities while preserving the legacy and public trust associated with India Post.

The redesigned Andheri RS Post Office now features contemporary architecture, standardised interiors, citizen-friendly layouts and unified branding intended to improve service efficiency and overall customer experience.

Addressing the gathering during the event, Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia highlighted the continuing importance of India Post in strengthening financial inclusion and digital connectivity across the country. He noted that India Post, which operates a network of more than 1.5 lakh post offices and carries a legacy spanning over 170 years, recorded a 16 per cent growth in Gross Postal Revenue during 2025-26.

Reflecting on the role of handwritten communication in today’s digital era, Scindia observed that modern interactions were increasingly limited to “notifications, scrolling and blue ticks”.

“A handwritten letter carries emotion, thought, and time in a way no instant message can,” he said, adding that post offices were “not just delivering letters anymore, but quietly delivering us back to ourselves”.

Following the inauguration, Fadnavis and Scindia also interacted with postmen, postwomen, and postal staff members at the Andheri Sports Complex, acknowledging their contribution to maintaining postal services and public connectivity.
