Dharavi Redevelopment Authority To Hold Single-Window Camps For Pending Housing Eligibility Verification

The Dharavi Redevelopment Project/Slum Rehabilitation Authority (DRP/SRA) will organise special single-window verification camps to resolve pending and “undecided” housing eligibility cases under the Dharavi redevelopment initiative. The exercise is aimed at assisting residents whose rehabilitation eligibility could not be finalised due to incomplete or insufficient documentation.

According to officials, the verification camps will be conducted from May 14 to May 26 across Dharavi and will cover all five sectors of the redevelopment area, including settlements located on railway land. During the camps, DRP officials will help residents with document scrutiny, verification procedures, and submission-related queries to speed up the resolution process for pending cases.

Authorities said the initiative is intended to streamline communication and reduce delays by allowing residents to complete the verification process through a single-window system. The DRP/SRA has also approached local corporators from different political parties to support the outreach and encourage participation among residents.

Officials stated that around one lakh units in Dharavi have already been surveyed as part of the redevelopment process. Draft Annexure II — the preliminary list used to determine eligibility for rehabilitation housing — has been issued for nearly 50 per cent of the surveyed units so far.

A senior official explained that several residents whose names appear in the draft Annexure II are yet to submit complete documentation required for eligibility confirmation. “There are unit holders whose names appear in the draft annexure II, but they have not submitted all documents. This camp is being conducted for such unit holders. There are another 24,000 unit holders who have not submitted documents. These unit holders too can submit their documents for verification,” said a senior official.

The Dharavi redevelopment project is among Mumbai’s largest urban rehabilitation initiatives and involves the redevelopment of one of Asia’s most densely populated informal settlements. Eligibility verification remains a critical step in the process, as it determines whether residents qualify for rehabilitation housing under the project framework.

Officials believe the upcoming camps will help clear a substantial number of unresolved cases and improve the pace of documentation and verification work across the redevelopment zone.
