Maharashtra has become one of the country’s preferred destinations for industrial growth, driven by increasing foreign investments and the expansion of sectors such as data centres, information technology and manufacturing, Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde said in Thane.
He was speaking during the inauguration of a Skill Development Centre at Wagle Estate on Thursday night. The facility has been set up under a corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative by a multinational company in partnership with SkillSonics, which is accredited by the National Skill Development Corporation.
Spread across 8,000 square feet, the centre has been designed as an advanced training facility aimed at providing industry-focused technical education to ITI students, diploma and engineering graduates, electricians and technicians. According to Shinde, the institute will offer free training to more than 1,000 young people and electricians every year to improve their employability and technical skills.
“Global companies are eager to invest in Maharashtra because of its excellent infrastructure, connectivity and skilled workforce. This institution will provide local youth with training and employment opportunities. There is a rising demand for technical manpower in the construction and infrastructure sector, and this facility will impart modern technical training to help these youth get faster scope of employment,” he said.
Highlighting the economic transition in the Thane region, Shinde said Wagle Industrial Estate, once known as one of Asia’s major industrial hubs, is now witnessing rapid growth in IT services, data centres and service-oriented businesses.
He noted that the transformation of the area was creating fresh employment opportunities for technically trained youth and contributing to Maharashtra’s growing position as an industrial and investment hub.
The Deputy Chief Minister also stressed the importance of skill development initiatives in preparing local youth for opportunities emerging from the State’s expanding infrastructure and industrial sectors.
