The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation has declared 504 buildings across the city as dangerous following a structural assessment conducted for the 2026-27 period. The action has been initiated under Section 264 of the Maharashtra Municipal Corporation Act as part of pre-monsoon safety measures aimed at reducing risks from structurally weak buildings.
According to the civic body, 52 structures have been categorised under the C-1 classification, indicating that they are highly unsafe, unfit for habitation and require immediate evacuation and demolition. Another 102 buildings have been listed under the C-2A category, where residents and occupants must vacate the premises temporarily to allow major structural repairs.
In addition, 297 buildings have been placed under the C-2B category, which requires repair work without evacuation, while 53 structures fall under the C-3 classification for minor repairs and maintenance.
The complete list has been published on the civic body’s official website under the Encroachment Department section within the General Information category. To help residents identify high-risk structures, the names of all C-1 buildings have been highlighted separately.
Through a public notice, the municipal corporation directed owners, tenants and commercial occupants in dangerous buildings to immediately discontinue use of structures falling under evacuation categories. Property owners have also been instructed to begin demolition or repair work without delay in accordance with guidelines issued by the Maharashtra Urban Development Department in November 2015.
The civic administration further warned that essential utility services, including electricity and water supply to C-1 category buildings, may be disconnected if necessary. Officials stated that continued occupation of unsafe buildings during the monsoon could pose serious threats to life and property.
The notice clarified that information regarding occupancy status has also been included in the published list. Authorities stated that any damage, injuries or fatalities resulting from collapse of such structures after issuance of notices would remain the responsibility of the concerned owners and occupants.
