Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has directed state agencies to accelerate the execution of several high-priority infrastructure projects, including Mumbai Metro corridors, the Dharavi Redevelopment Project, twin tunnel links and other major developments across Maharashtra.
Chairing the Infrastructure Chief Minister’s War Room Meeting at Sahyadri Guest House in Mumbai on Thursday, Fadnavis reviewed the progress of key projects spanning the Mumbai Metropolitan Region and Pune. The projects under review included Metro Lines 2, 2B, 5, 6, 7A and 9, the Sewri-Worli Elevated Corridor, Pune Metro Line 3, Pune Ring Road, the Virar-Alibaug Multimodal Corridor, the Bandra-Versova Sea Link, the Goregaon-Mulund Link Road, the Thane-Borivali Twin Tunnel Project, and redevelopment initiatives in Dharavi and BDD Chawls.
Emphasising the economic significance of infrastructure investment, the Chief Minister instructed officials to resolve project-related bottlenecks and ensure that contractors adhere to timelines. He stated that infrastructure projects should be completed within three to three-and-a-half years and stressed the need to evaluate contractors based on their past performance before awarding new work.
According to an official statement, Fadnavis observed that project delays result in financial losses for both the state and the country and should not be tolerated.
Reviewing the Dharavi Redevelopment Project, he directed officials to extend State GST concessions to entrepreneurs operating in the area, saying the measure would support local enterprises and facilitate the transition of Dharavi’s informal economy into the formal sector.
The Chief Minister also called for faster implementation of the Thane-Borivali Twin Tunnel Project, the Goregaon-Mulund Twin Tunnel Project and the Bandra-Versova Sea Link. He further instructed authorities to expedite land acquisition for the Virar-Alibaug Multimodal Corridor, accelerate work on the Pune Ring Road, and address pending water supply issues in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar through inter-departmental coordination.
