BMC Invites Bids For Rs 108-Crore Flyover Linking Mulund East To Eastern Express Highway

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has floated a tender for the construction of a new flyover that will provide direct access from Mulund East to the southbound Eastern Express Highway (EEH). Estimated to cost Rs 108.23 crore, the project is aimed at reducing travel time, easing traffic congestion and improving road safety for commuters travelling towards south Mumbai.

At present, motorists from Mulund East and Neelam Nagar have to take a lengthy and often congested route to access the southbound carriageway of the EEH. The existing alignment requires vehicles to turn left near Gavanpada Public Garden before taking a U-turn at the Octroi Naka, resulting in an additional detour of nearly three kilometres during peak hours.

To address this bottleneck, the proposed flyover will directly connect Prataprao Gujar Marg in Neelam Nagar, Mulund (East), with the under-construction elevated Eastern Express Highway between Anand Nagar and Saket. The new link is expected to streamline traffic movement and significantly shorten travel time for daily commuters.

According to the tender documents, the flyover will be approximately 780 metres long and will comprise a two-lane carriageway with a width of 6.5 metres, designed for one-way traffic towards the southbound highway.

The civic body has estimated the project cost at Rs 108.23 crore, with construction expected to be completed within 24 months. Work is likely to commence by the end of 2026 after the tendering and contract award process is completed.

The project forms part of the BMC’s broader efforts to strengthen Mumbai’s road infrastructure and improve connectivity in the eastern suburbs. By providing a direct link to the Eastern Express Highway, the flyover is expected to reduce congestion around the busy Octroi Naka junction, improve traffic flow and offer a safer, more efficient route for thousands of motorists travelling from Mulund East towards south Mumbai each day.
