Mumbai Metro One has introduced a digital pass facility on WhatsApp, enabling passengers on the Versova-Andheri-Ghatkopar corridor to purchase, store and use travel passes through the messaging platform.
The initiative, promoted by Reliance Infrastructure, expands the operator’s existing digital ticketing services and removes the need for commuters to carry a physical pass. Users can also add their digital passes to Google Wallet and Apple Wallet.
Two pass options for commuters
Passengers can select between two digital products. The Trip Pass allows users to purchase a fixed number of journeys in advance, with the trips remaining available until they are used.
The Store Value Pass enables commuters to deposit an amount of their choice into the pass. The applicable fare is automatically deducted after each journey, while the balance can be replenished digitally when required.
Both options are accessible through mobile wallets, giving regular passengers another way to manage their daily travel.
Pass available through WhatsApp
The digital pass can be purchased using Mumbai Metro One’s existing WhatsApp ticketing service. Commuters need to send “Hi” to 91 9670008889, select “Book Now” and choose the “Digital Pass” option.
They can then select either the Trip Pass or Store Value Pass and complete payment using UPI, debit or credit cards. The pass is issued instantly.
The process does not require a separate application, new account or visit to a ticket counter.
Builds on existing digital services
Mumbai Metro One introduced WhatsApp-based ticketing in November 2022, allowing passengers to purchase single-trip QR tickets. The operator completed 12 years of service in June 2026 and has carried more than 125 crore passengers since its launch.
The operator has also introduced mobile QR ticketing and ticket integration through the Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC).
Mumbai Metro One CEO Shyamantak Choudhury said the digital pass builds on the company’s WhatsApp ticketing system and gives passengers greater flexibility.
Billeasy CEO Akash Patil said the service is intended to make daily commuting easier, while PayU India CEO Anirban Mukherjee said the company is supporting secure digital payments for passengers.
The operator expects the initiative to reduce dependence on physical tickets, shorten queues and simplify regular metro travel.
