The Mumbai Board of the Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA) has decided to offer vacant amenity plots on a first-come, first-served (FCFS) basis after its e-auction process failed to attract the expected response.
MHADA has been conducting e-auctions of plots across Mumbai for several years for facilities such as schools, colleges, hospitals, playgrounds and entertainment centres. These plots are generally offered on lease for a specified period and generate revenue for the housing authority. However, some properties remained unsold due to factors including pricing and limited interest from potential applicants.
To improve the response, the Mumbai Board has now introduced the FCFS system for vacant plots. Online registration for eight amenity plots located in MHADA colonies in Malad-Malvani, Tagore Nagar and Kannamwar Nagar in Vikhroli, Gorai and Akurli began on Thursday. The application process will officially commence on August 25.
The plot allotment process will be conducted in three phases. During the first phase, registered applicants can submit applications from 11 am on August 25 until 5.30 pm on September 5. The list of eligible and ineligible applicants will be released on September 15 at 5 pm.
Any plots left vacant, along with newly added amenity plots, will then move into the second phase. Applications for this round will open at 11 am on September 20 and close at 5.30 pm on September 30. The eligibility list will be announced on October 10 at 5 pm.
The third phase will cover plots remaining after the second round as well as newly added facilities. Applications will be accepted from 11 am on October 15 until 5.30 pm on October 25, with the list of eligible and ineligible applicants scheduled for release on November 5 at 5 pm.
Applicants must submit the required documents online and pay the prescribed deposit. MHADA has advised applicants to carefully review the information booklet, eligibility requirements, terms and conditions and document requirements before applying.
Applicants may also be required to submit original copies of documents uploaded online to the Mumbai Board during the process.
