Mumbai’s Versova-Bangur Nagar Road To Cut Travel Time From 50 Minutes To 15

The elevated corridor intends to ease congestion on the Versova-Bangur Nagar route

Mumbai’s upcoming Versova Interchange-Bangur Nagar elevated road is expected to significantly reduce travel time between the two locations, with the journey potentially dropping from 40-50 minutes to just 10-15 minutes. The 4.54-km corridor is being developed as part of the Mumbai Coastal Road (North) project, with completion targeted for December 2028.

The eight-lane road will be approximately 45 metres wide, with four lanes in each direction. Of the overall 4,540-metre chainage, the main elevated structure will account for around 4,302 metres.

At present, motorists travelling towards Goregaon and Bangur Nagar largely rely on Link Road or Swami Vivekanand Road (SV Road), where congestion can substantially increase journey times. The new elevated connection is intended to provide a faster alternative and ease pressure on these busy routes.

Additional Municipal Commissioner (Projects) Abhijit Bangar recently inspected several locations along the alignment, including the MSRDC bridge integration point, Ram Nagar, Amarnath Tower, Nana Nani Udyan, Madh Interchange, Kavthe Creek and Lokhandwala Rotary.

The civic body has 27 months to complete the project by December 2028. Bangar said that simultaneous execution of different stages by separate teams could help maintain the schedule, adding that “meeting the December 2028 deadline will be possible.”

Package A has been divided into four sections covering the MSRDC bridge integration point, Amarnath Tower-Mogra Nala, Nana Nani Udyan-Amarnath Tower and the Mogra Nala-to-end stretch of the package.

At the MSRDC bridge integration point, geotechnical investigations have been completed and column construction is expected to begin. Between Nana Nani Udyan and Amarnath Tower, foundation piling has been completed and four columns have been erected. Beyond Amarnath Tower, a temporary access bridge is ready and piling is underway.

Around 10 hectares have also been acquired near Lokhandwala-Millat Nagar Junction, where land demarcation and soil testing are in progress.

During the inspection, Bangar directed officials to coordinate with MSRDC and closely monitor progress through a dashboard system. He also stressed that the “highest priority should be given to work quality, safety and time planning”.

The corridor is part of the broader Coastal Road (North) network, which BMC says will span about 60 km including interchanges and link roads and connect Versova with Bhayander.
