The first bullet train station in India is currently being built in Mumbai, and work is moving quickly. The structure is currently being built 100 feet below the surface. Union Minister of Railways Ashwini Vaishnaw shared an update on social networking site X, writing, “Mumbai’s Bullet Train Station is taking shape 100 feet below ground!”
The Mumbai-Ahmedabad high-speed rail corridor, a landmark project under India’s expanding high-speed rail network, includes this station as a crucial link. The announcement coincides with the central government’s ongoing efforts to expand Maharashtra’s railway network. During a recent news conference in Mumbai with Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Union Minister Vaishnaw declared that the state has so far received approval for projects of Rs 1.73 lakh crore.
These include major station redevelopment projects, regional corridor upgrades, and the bullet train, according to ANI.
The railway minister also reviewed the 2025–26 Union Budget, which invests Rs 23,778 crore exclusively for Maharashtra’s railway industry. He emphasised how crucial steady funding is to enabling the implementation of major infrastructure projects.
“When the INDI alliance, then known as the UPA, was in power, only Rs 1,171 crore was given to Maharashtra, but now PM Modi has given at least 20 times more than that,” Vaishnaw remarked about the difference with prior administrations.
The 240-kilometer Ballarshah–Gondia doubling project, which has been funded with Rs 4,819 crore, is one of the recently approved projects. The Jalna–Jalgaon route and several current station renovation projects that aim to update the traveler experience are additional important projects.
