130-Acre Coastal Road Gardens And Promenade Planned For Mumbai

August 30, 2025: Reliance Foundation has announced plans to develop the gardens and promenade along the Mumbai Coastal Road, creating a vast 130-acre public space for citizens. The initiative, described as the first of its kind in the city, will include landscaped gardens, shaded walkways, cycling tracks, plazas and abundant greenery with a variety of trees and flowers.

Foundation chairperson Nita Ambani, unveiling the project on Friday, described it as a personal endeavour aimed at giving back to the city. “It is about giving back to a city that has given so much to all Mumbaikars,” she said. Mrs Ambani added that the project would embody harmony between development and the environment, and between progress and preservation.

“A ribbon of green will now hug our city’s edge,” she remarked, highlighting the vision of a vibrant urban space where citizens can breathe fresh air and witness the sea’s sunsets.

Once completed, the coastal road gardens and promenade are expected to become a landmark recreational destination, reflecting Mumbai’s aspiration to balance infrastructure growth with sustainable urban living. The Reliance Foundation initiative seeks to provide every resident with a shared space for leisure, fitness and community life.
