Mumbai Metro 3 Final Stretch To Be Inaugurated By PM Modi On 8 October

October 3, 2025: Mumbai’s transport infrastructure is poised for a significant upgrade as the final section of Mumbai Metro 3 is scheduled to be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on October 8. Ahead of the event, Mumbai Metro 3 shared exclusive images from Grant Road Metro station, showcasing the station’s modern design and readiness to serve commuters.

The visuals highlight the seamless connectivity the station will offer to one of South Mumbai’s busiest neighbourhoods, linking schools, hospitals, markets, and iconic Grant Road East and West. A social media post from Mumbai Metro 3 described the station as “Your gateway to South Mumbai’s vibrant hubs,” encouraging residents to travel smarter, faster, and greener.

The inauguration will complete the 33.5-kilometre Colaba–Bandra–SEEPZ Aqua Line, making it Mumbai’s first fully underground metro corridor. Officials say the line promises faster, eco-friendly travel while significantly reducing congestion on city roads.

The Aqua Line has been opened in phases. The initial segment, connecting Aarey-JVLR with Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC), was launched in October 2024, providing a direct link between the western suburbs and Mumbai’s financial hub. The second phase, running from BKC to Worli’s Acharya Atre Chowk, became operational in May 2025. Both stretches have already recorded robust ridership, reflecting strong demand for seamless east–west and north–south metro connectivity.

With the opening of the Worli–Cuffe Parade section, the Aqua Line will connect commuters to six business districts, 30 major office hubs, 12 educational institutions, 11 hospitals, 10 transport nodes, and 25 cultural and religious landmarks. It will also integrate with the suburban rail network at Churchgate and CSMT, helping to relieve pressure on the heavily utilised Western and Central lines and marking a major milestone in modernising Mumbai’s public transport system.
