BMC Announces 10% Water Cut In Mumbai For Essential Infrastructure Upgrades

October 04, 2025: The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has scheduled a 10% water cut across parts of Mumbai’s city area and eastern suburbs from October 7 to October 9. The temporary disruption is due to planned electricity meter upgrades at the Pise and Panjrapur water purification plants, with work scheduled between 12:30 PM and 3 PM daily.

According to BMC, the three-day water reduction will impact several areas of South Mumbai. Affected zones include A ward (Colaba, Cuffe Parade), B ward (Masjid), E ward (Byculla), F-south (Lalbaug, Parel), and F-north (Sion, Matunga). Residents in these areas should anticipate reduced water supply during the maintenance period.

The eastern suburbs will also experience the cut. L ward (Kurla East), M-East (Govandi, Mankhurd), M-West (Chembur, Tilak Nagar), N ward (Ghatkopar, Vikhroli), S ward (Bhandup, Kanjurmarg), and T ward (Mulund) have been listed among the affected regions.

To minimise inconvenience, the civic body has advised residents to store sufficient water in advance and use it judiciously. Authorities emphasised that this precautionary step will help households manage their needs without major disruption.

The BMC clarified that the meter upgrades are part of ongoing efforts to enhance water supply efficiency and service reliability across the city. While the work will cause short-term inconvenience, officials urged citizens to support the initiative by cooperating and conserving water.

This planned cut highlights the importance of infrastructure improvements in sustaining Mumbai’s growing needs. The BMC has assured residents that once completed, the upgrades will contribute to better service delivery.

In the meantime, citizens are encouraged to prepare by storing extra water, avoiding wastage, and planning usage between October 7 and 9. The civic body has expressed appreciation for public cooperation during this essential maintenance activity.
